With The NM Wilderness Alliance

Journey Hosts: Alan Webber & James Burbank

“In the tradition of Desert Solitaire and Shop Class as Soulcraft, a remarkable debut from a major new voice in American nonfiction-a meditation on nature and life, witnessed from the heights of one of the last fire lookout towers in America.” Philip Connors is an American essayist and author. He was born in Iowa and raised in Minnesota. He studied journalism at the University of Montana. He interned at the Nation and subsequently worked at the Wall Street Journal for several years. He left New York City in 2002 and moved to New Mexico. He lives in Silver City, NM. Every year since 2002, Connor has worked for several months in the summer at the Gila National Forest as a US Forest Service fire lookout. His new book is based on these experiences.
